The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has sensitised 77,339 people in Katsina State on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking, and secured the conviction of 76 drug offenders in 2023.

This was made known by the state NDLEA Commander, Mr Hassan Sani-Abubakar, while briefing newsmen on Thursday in Katsina on the activities of the command in 2023.

According to him, the sensitisation campaign was conducted 148 times as the agency pushed its War Against Drug Abuse to communities, to check rising cases of drug abuse and trafficking among young men and women in the state.

The commander further said that within the year under review, the command arrested no fewer than 919 suspects, out of which 894 were males while 25 were females.

“We also seized 563.5541kg of drugs, 450.963kg of Cannabis and 111.5911kg of other Psychotropic drugs.

“Our legal department filed 98 cases before the Federal High Court in Katsina and we successfully secured 76 convictions.

“We also secured the interim forfeiture of one Sienna vehicle and final forfeiture of 33 abandoned Motorcycles and one Prime Nissan vehicle,” Sani-Abubakar said.

He added that 842 drug users were counseled during the year, of which 805 were males and 37 females.

The commander further said that 82 drug victims were admitted for rehabilitation, comprising 75 males and seven females.

Sani-Abubakar said 25 of the victims were sponsored for rehabilitation by the state government while 57 were self-sponsored.

“The command also busted a drug party where about 25 suspects were arrested, and we also dismantled a crack cocaine syndicate. We also administered drug integrity test to a major company employees in the state,” he added. (NAN). READ ALSO::
